Really light and battery last forever.I got a 40.00 model first and used it to trim my hedges in front. It did an extremely good job, and I held off on the other side to wait for this one to arrive. They off course do add features for the more expensive model, and I love those. The cheaper one had an internal battery that could not be detached. You plugged the charger directly into the handle. This one has a transformer that charges a separate large battery pack like a lot of outdoor cordless tools use. It slips on easy and gives a good long power use for the device. I liked the safety features this one has, as your hand is full inside the handle when using. It has the dead man's switches to engage the blade and prevent accidental activation. It adjusts just as well and as easy as the cheaper model.Performance, while it gets longer run time, I don't know why but the different blade cutting design took more coaxing to cut the bigger branches on the hedge when trimming. I went and got the cheaper one to check, and it took a little longer to get them cut, I could not just wave it across and flatten them out like the other one did. They do cut, but you have to go slower, the bar looks a little different on the two, so the feed might be affected. I only gave a small deduction for this and for the price, but still was able to trim and for a longer time. The grass blades of both units worked nearly the same. Strangely, I think they both worked better than my full-size bar hedge trimmer. It could be it's just getting dull since I've had it for a few years now, and I have a lot of bushes and such on the property. I recommend this one for smaller properties with a few bushes, just like the other small version I have. I do want to say that the price on this one is getting pretty close to a full 30" bar hedge trimmer, so if you have a lot of bushes, and a small budget, an upgrade may be in order.I own several handheld and full sized battery powered hedge & grass trimmers - this one stands out...It's a really simple kit: The drive head/handle, battery & battery charger, a grass shear attachment tool and a hedge trimming attachment tool. Once I began using this machine, I realized how many elements of commercial grade equipment were incorporated into it's design.Adjustable angle head: By depressing the buttons on either side of the accessory attachment shoe, I was able to adjust the angle of the tool in relation to the handle (see photo) handy when working in an odd position or when trimming an object/surface perpendicular to handle.Wide grass shear head: Most handheld trimmer blades max out at 4" width and have 4 or fewer tines on the oscillating blade. The width of this shear blade is 5 1/4" and the oscillating blade has 5 tines - I can get a lot more trimming done faster and do a more consistent job of it. It's extremely greater in efficiency than narrower shears.Dual action hedge trimming blade (see photos): With exception to commercial equipment, this is the first hedge trimming blade that incorporates equal/opposite motion of both upper and lower blade (photos: Cam #1 & Cam #2) Other trimmers have the lower blade stationary and move only the upper blade - Once again I get a lot more power to cut the branches and the effective oscillation/cutting efficiency of the blades is doubled. How is the performance? Really awesome! I had no difficulty trimming large areas of thick vines, corn grass and crab grass that had invaded our flowerbeds. When trimming very tall grass I grasped a fist full of it at the top and ran the grass shear blade through the thick bases of the stems. I never experienced any hesitation except when I would hit a twig buried within the grass. This machine did an excellent job of cleaning up 10~13" grass around an aloe vera plant (see photo) and was easy enough to maneuver that I never damaged the plant with the blades.Trimming hedges was easily accomplished too. Not only did this trimmer easily and cleanly cut my hedges but I also trimmed/topped the trees on my fence line - branches around 3/16" diameter (and larger) without any issue of hesitation (see photo) The motor's gear ratio to tooling oscillation balances speed and power in the 'sweet spot' - having the torque to do the job without sluggish performance. Conclusion: A very effective, well made machine that makes a lot of my other trimmers obsolete. Everything about this machine impressed me - it certainly exceeded my expectations. Two thumbs up for this one. I love it!Chose this to replace a similar tool which had stopped working. I actually find this a little too big and heavy to get a 5 star rating. Plus it has no cover for the blade, but in one important area it gets top marks. Being able to remove the battery when cleaning or swapping the blade is of paramount importance. I always worried with the old one that somehow the blade would engage while I was doing maintenance and I would end up at the ER. Safety first so this one has to be my choice.I finally got to try this baby out yesterday and does it ever make quick work of everything the mower can't get. Except those bleeping metal parts that hold the shepherds hooks in the ground. It absolutely does not like those.Because it's so lightweight, I strongly suggest making a rule where you gotta have both hands on it when the blades are in motion. It would be easy to hurt yourself really bad, really fast. But dang, the battery lasts forever. How do I know? Because it's been in the box, in the garage since I got it a while back and it worked straight out of the box when I snapped the battery into place. There was enough juice for me to get the grass from around my shepherds hooks and the trimmer didn't die. It's plugged in now, as I prowl the yard for other things that need clipping. Like the boxwoods that line our front stairs. Down with unruly boxwoods! This is just the tool for that, rather than hauling Excalibur (a full sized battery operated hedge trimmer) out there and causing the neighbors to speculate why I'm out there doing it at all. I'm disabled, so these newer battery operated cordless yard tools are the answer to my needs. If the battery lasts longer than I do before pooping out, its a winner in my book!
