Fellowes Proton 120 Sheet Capacity Electric Paper Trimmer - 5410202 for Office, School & Home Document Cutting Needs

I hesitated to purchase this trimmer because of a negative revue on Amazon. But the cost was VERY low at the time (about the same as a light-weight plastic, straight-blade type). I have had many other Fellowes products, as well, and all were of the highest quality and design.This trimmer is no exception. It is sturdily made, with metal cutting surface and crossbar. The only plastic parts are the end-pieces and blade cover, which is standard enough and do not affect trim in any way adversely.I can see what problems the other reviewer may have had. I discovered, by initial trial and error, that you must hold down the cross bar with left hand to keep paper in place (more expensive trimmers have a lock which secures paper). Do not rely on pressure from hand pressure on blade alone to do the job. Then, begin the cut at bottom of paper and push away from you, cutting towards the top edge; transfer pressure on the crossbar as the blade passes.This may sound a bit complicated but, I assure you, with very little practice the cuts are perfect every time. Cutting from the top down towards you does not seem to agree with cutter, and it is harder to hold paper in place which results in uneven cuts. In addition, the replaceable cutting guide merely sits in a groove and, if not fully flat and flush with the cutting surface, this can affect the cut. Make sure it is pressed into groove well and seated there firmly.These small issues are the only reason I have given this four stars. The instructions are minimal, and do not indicate any of this. But at half the price, and half the foot-print, of other rotary trimmers, the quirks seem minor and have little negative effect.
